Explore the stunning Sierra de Gredos mountain range in central Spain, just 170 kilometers from Madrid. The granite peaks here, including the highest, Almanzor at 2,592 meters, provide a dramatic backdrop for two incredible trail rides: 'Castles of the Gredos Mountains' and 'Gredos to Salamanca.'

These rides take you through a variety of landscapes—lush forests, rugged uplands, and remote stone-built villages—giving you a true taste of rural Spain and its medieval charm.

Your guide, Emilio, knows these trails like the back of his hand. His calm approach and strong bond with his well-trained horses make for a stress-free ride, allowing you to soak in the scenery. Thanks to Gredos’ sunny, dry climate, these rides are available almost year-round.

Designed for intermediate to experienced riders, these journeys offer the thrill of open fields and stunning vistas. You’ll also have the chance to ride a majestic PRE (Pure Spanish Breed) or Hispano-Arab horse—both energetic yet calm, the perfect companions for an unforgettable adventure.

GREDOS ITINERARIES - SPAIN

Information Concerning all Rides in THE SIERRA DE GREDOS

  • Most of the horses are the famous and majestic PRE (Pure Spanish Breed) while some other are Hispano-Arab crosses. There are 35 horses, with 26 ready and well-trained for clients. The horses are born and bred by the owners (a part from some exceptions who arrived as foals at the ranch).

    They are all very well cared for and live in a group in the most natural habitat as possible. The are very well trained thanks to natural horsemanship methods. You will find it easy to connect and communicate with your ride, and you will see that all the horses are very relaxed when traveling as a group !

    They are forward going while being always attentive to your instructions. Riding these exceptionally dependable horses is a true privilege !

  • These itineraries are meant for intermediate to experienced riders.

    Riders should be able to evolve in a group and open terrains at all three gaits (walking, trotting and galloping).

    Weight limit: 90kg (198lbs)

    Riders should be fit enough to handle from 4 to 7 hours in the saddle each day.

  • Accommodation: All riding holidays include accommodation (twin bedroom - private bathroom), Lodging options throughout the itinerary vary from charming rural inns to 4-star hotels in towns.

    Meals: Breakfast, lunch, and dinner are provided, with drinks included (soft drinks, beer, and wine). The food is a true highlight of this trip! Enjoy tapas featuring Serrano ham, Manchego cheese, olives, nuts, and more. Lunchtime is a relaxed and social affair, with delicious homemade Spanish dishes like Paella, Tortilla Española, BBQ, salads, and more, followed by a peaceful siesta in the countryside.

    After a day of riding, dinner is served around 9 p.m. at your guesthouse accommodation. You’ll have a variety of local Spanish dishes to choose from, with multiple courses available. All meals include drinks, including excellent Spanish red and white wines, beer, soft drinks, and water.

    Arrival and transfer: you will be picked up at Madrid Airport at 3pm, so your flight should arrive in Madrid before 2pm.

  • Flights: International flights are not included.

    Insurance: We request you take a travel Insurance covering medical expences, injuries, baggage and personal items for the entire duration of the trip. You will not be allowed to participate in the trail ride without it.

  • Passport & visa: depending of your country of departure. Please take the necessary arrangements.

    Vaccinations: No specific vaccines required

    Non-riders: welcome, you can take part with the visits and meals and travel in the support car or move on your own and join us.

    Climate:

    • Spring & Autumn: temperatures are around 18°C with sunny and cloudy days making it the perfect time to take part with these rides.

    • Summer: dry and warmer (around 27°C). Good time for swimming in the rivers in between rides!

    Rides are confirmed if there a minimum of people participating. A small group supplement will be applied for groups of 2 or 3 people. More information in the prices of each different itinerary hereunder.

Castles of Gredos

Get ready for an unforgettable ride! This itinerary takes you through the stunning landscapes of Gredos, passing through charming villages and majestic castles along the way. You'll follow your guide through enchanting pine and poplar forests, cross pristine rivers, and gallop across wide-open pastures. Every day brings new scenery and experiences, so there's always something amazing to see. You won’t believe your eyes!

  • Day 1: Arrival in Madrid - Navarredonda de Gredos
    (no horse riding)

    Transfer will be organised from Madrid airport at 3pm on day of arrival. This means your flight should arrive before 2pm. You will then will be driven to Sierra de Gredos.
    A stop in the medieval town of Avila is planned (World Heritage Site UNESCO).
    Dinner will be served at the hotel. You will overnight at El Milano Real Hotel in a small village at 1.600m of altitude. where you can see the highest peak of the mountains of Gredos.
    Extra: a SPA session can be organised.

    Day 2: Navarredonda de Gredos - Navacepeda de Tormes
    (4 - 5 hours in the saddle)

    Time to meet you horse ! This will be a short day of riding, so perfect to get used to your new friend !
    Lunch will served next to the river Tormes at a fisherman's hut with an excellent paëlla, cooked on the spot. In summer and autumn you can cool down in the refreshing river before heading to the town of Navacepeda de Tormes.
    Transfer to the previous hotel will be arranged where you'll have diner and sleep.
    Extra: a SPA session can be organised.

    Day 3: Navacepeda de Tormes - El Barco de Avila
    (6 - 7 hours in the saddle)

    Get ready to see the most beautiful views of Gredos ! Cross different valleys and canter towards the town of El Barco de Avila, a 12th century village and its caslte where you'll be staying in a 4* hotel.
    Lunch will be served midway alonside the river Tormes and its medieval bridge.

    Day 4: El Barco de Avila - Hoyorredondo
    (6 - 7 hours in the saddle)

    Today you will ride towards the Salamanca province. The landscape will change from dry and flat terrain with beautifull rock formation, to forest of oaks and pastures. Cross Puente de Congosto, a medieval village with a 15th century bridge and castle.
    After lunch the fun part begins with some nice galloping to Hoyorredondo!
    You will stay the night at an enchanting rural Inn, where you will see the horses rest from your bedroom.

    Day 5: Hoyorredondo - Navacepedilla de Corneja
    (6 hours in the saddle)

    Head towards Bonilla de la Sierra, an important medieval town with a beautiful church. You'll be crossing a valley, so the opportunity to enjoy some nice canters !
    Savor a nice barbecue for lunch in a private garden where you'll also find a swimming pool.
    You will have diner and stay the night in a hotel in Navacepedilla de Corneja.

    Day 6: Navacepedilla de Corneja - Navarredonda de Gredos
    (6 hours in the saddle)

    Get ready for a mountain trail ride as you climb to the highest point of your journey at 1.800m of altitude to Puerto de Chia. Take in the stunning view of Gredos mountain range while having lunch.
    You will spend the night and have a farewell diner back at the hotel.

    Day 7: Navarredonda de Gredos - Madrid Aiport
    (no riding)

    Breakfast at the hotel and departure at 10 am to arrive at 12 pm in Madrid.

Gredos to salamanca

Get the best of spain with this amazing horse riding holiday ! You'll journey through the stunning landscapes and charming towns of the Sierra de Gredos, ending in the historic city of Salamanca, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

  • Day 1: arrival in Madrid - Navarredonda de Gredos
    (no horse riding)

    Transfer will be organised from Madrid airport. You will be picked up and will be driven to Sierra de Gredos.
    A stop in he miedieval town of Avila is planned (World Heritage Site UNESCO).
    Dinner will be served at the hotel in a small village at 1.600m of altitude where you can see the highest peak of the mountains of Gredos.

    Day 2: Navarredonda de Gredos - Navacepeda de Tormes

    Day 3: Navacepeda de Tormes - Navacepedilla de Corneja
    (6 - 7 hours in the saddle)

    Today you will go from one valley to another one, dicovering different landscapes on the way.
    A tapas break will be organised before heading to Puerto de Chia (1800m of altitude) where you can admire a panoramic view of the Corneja valley on one side and the Alberche river on the other.
    After lunch you will follow an ancient roman road decending to Navacepedilla de Corneja. You will spend the night there in a charming rural hotel.

    Day 4: Navacepedilla de Corneja - El Miron
    (6 - 7 hours in the saddle)

    Head to the source of the Corneja river. You will reach Bonilla de la Sierra, a medieval village and its castle dating back from the 14th century. Lunch will be served there before continuing your journey towards El Miron. Enjoy nice canters as well as a breathtaking view of El Miron's castle as you approach the village.

    Day 5: El Miron - Horcajo Medianero
    (6 - 7 hours in the saddle)

    Today your guide and horse will take you accross the famous spanish Dehesas of Salamanca ! Ride through oak trees, bulls and black Iberian pigs.
    Lunch will be served in the countryside where you'll enjoy excellent spanish food and the famous jamon iberico.

    Day 6: Horcajo Medianero - Navales - Salamanca
    (4 hours in the saddle)

    Your last day will be busy and exciting! In the morning the trail ride will take you near Alba de Tormes where lunch will also be served. The history of Alba de Tormes is closely tied to the life and death of Santa Teresa, whose body rests in one of the town's convents.
    After lunch, the horses will travel backhome while you will transferred to the city of Salamanca (20min). Take the afternoon to visit the city with the with the beautiful Plaza Mayor and cathedral.
    Dinner will take place in a restaurant in the Plaza Mayor and the hotel is located in the heard of the city.

    Day 6: Salamanca - Madrid
    (no riding)

    Breakfast served at the hotel before leaving at 10 am to get to the aiport at 12pm.
